How Will 'Daredevil' Fare Among Marvel Flicks?

by Alanna Bennett

Ben Affleck has long admitted that his starring role in 2003's Daredevil was one of the biggest mistakes of his career. Still, despite the absolute tanking of that film in the public memory, Daredevil as a character is still a pretty solid comic book character. And seeing as we now live in a time reigned over by comic book on-screen adaptations, it makes sense that Marvel would be ready and willing to give the character another go. Because while remaking beloved things may be a bad move, sometimes remaking abhorred things is just what the world needs. And so it is that Marvel's Daredevil Netflix show is now confirmed to be a venture that will exist within the larger Marvel cinematic universe.

Daredevil will be presided over by Drew Goddard, previously known for Cabin in the Woods, World War Z, Lost, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As with ABC's Agents Of SHIELD, the strings of the characters within the series will be pulled by both the demands of their smaller-scale existence and by the much more generously budgeted existence of the blockbusters Marvel churns out multiple times a year.

In the context of Daredevil, which is set in New York that will at the very least mean this will be a world influenced by the fact that a giant alien invasion took place in Manhattan in Avengers — and that's not even touching on all the SHIELD crap that went down in Winter Soldier, or whatever they've got planned for Age Of Ultron.
