His Family Problems Aren't Helping

by Mallory Schlossberg

The legendary radio host Casey Kasem is missing, and while his disappearance remains a mystery, it seems like his family is laying the blame on his wife, Jean Kasem. His wife has been notoriously protective of Kasem, who suffers from severe Parkinson's disease, and Kasem's children with his first wife seem confident that their step-mother is responsible for his unknown whereabouts, which only adds to the tragic nature of the event.

Jean Kasem has some issues with Kasem's daughters, Kerri and Julie, from his previous marriage to Linda Myers Naylor. Julie filed for conservatorship over their father in October, which seems to indicate just how much she distrusts Jean. Back in November, Jean and her lawyer filed a statement that said:

These children falsely claim that their stepmother is wicked and is keeping her husband prisoner.... For reasons they know all too well, their presence at this stage would be toxic and extremely distressing for Casey, Jean and their daughter, Liberty, who have had enough of their cruelty.

Clearly, hostile feelings have been percolating, which means that contempt has been brewing for awhile within the family. Jean has allegedly forbidden people to visit her husband, and kept him in isolation. Reportedly, Kasem's family would try to reach out, but Jean would take away Kasem's phones, and when Myers Naylor alongside with her daughters Kerri and Julie did visit on May 6, Myers Naylor said to The Hollywood Reporter that the following transpired:

The kids got to see their dad; he mouthed, 'I love you.' Then his wife [Jean] went in that night, dumped him into a car and took him away. He had an IV plus a stomach feeding tube.

Julie Kasem added:

All because his children dared to come and visit him [...] Crazy, crazy, crazy. Such a case of isolation.

She also added what she saw:

Jean was talking to her niece in Washington on the phone [...] saying, 'I need an Indian reservation with a private airstrip and I want to bring Casey there.' Her nephew overheard and immediately alerted Kerry [...] We're all sort of family, in a twisted way.

So could she have then sent him away? It's believed that she did, but was this for his health or to stimulate for family drama? Jean's lawyer, Craig Marcus, claims he doesn't know where Kasem is, just that he isn't in the United States anymore, which adds to the notion that Jean Kasem had him removed from the country.

A court judge has ordered an investigation, but this unfortunate family drama is certainly not helping anything. Hopefully, the truth will come out after the investigation and his family will be able to contact him once again.
