Chris Rock Will Host the 2014 BET Awards

by Alicia Lutes

Man — everyone really is upping their hosting game this year, aren't they? Look what you did, Tina and Amy (we'll always contribute the good things to you, always)! Just today it was announced that one of the most popular and successful comedians out there (and likely of all time), Chris Rock, has been selected to host the 2014 BET Awards. Which means they will be anything but boring and probably quite hilarious: that much feels pretty certain.

The announcement came on Wednesday's airing of the network's popular countdown show, 106 & Park. It was followed shortly thereafter by a tweet because is anything really real if it isn't on the Internet? I mean really.

Earlier in the day the award show's nominations were released, with Beyoncé, Jay Z, and Drake all tied for first with 5 noms apiece. Also up for awards? Janelle Monaé, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke, Kendrick Lamar, and more.

The awards also honor film and television as well, with esteemed performers like Angela Bassett, Kerry Washington, Lupita Nyong'o, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, and Michael B. Jordan all getting nods for their impressive work this year.

The BET Awards will air live, taking place at the Nokia Theatre/L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, June 29th at 8PM on BET Networks. The show will also be able to be viewed on BET's international network on July 1.
