Jumpsuit Advice For The Weary

by Shorey Andrews

Taking it's cue from the 70's, the jumpsuit has found it's way back into the wardrobes of women of all ages. With so many fabrics, patterns, and fits there is bound to be an option for everyone. Yet, despite how easy it looks to wear a jumpsuit, many women are still intimidated by this trend, as it can complicate many situations. Your confidence can be at an all-time high in your one-piece, until that inevitable moment when you realize you have to use the washroom.

Setting aside the small blunders that may come with wearing this reinvented style, the intimidation factor is more common in how to wear a jumpsuit. Do you choose the one with the crazy polka dot pattern, or is a solid color jumpsuit the right pick for you? Is your jumpsuit work appropriate, or will co-workers look at you in dismay as you approach your desk with uncertainty?

These questions are common, and the more you know about how to wear it, the more confident you will feel when heading out in public. Here are five quick tips that may help ease your mind when on the hunt for the perfect jumpsuit this season.

1. PAIR IT WITH A JACKET

The easiest way to feel confident in a jumpsuit is to pair the look with a great jacket. A sleek blazer can polish your look, while also creating an outfit suitable for the office. For a more casual appearance, try a fitted denim jacket, or a great bomber.

2. BACK TO BLACK

Jumpsuits can be found in an endless array of patterns and textures. For your first test drive in this trend, look for a classic black one piece that flatters your body type and builds confidence. Choosing black also makes room for your favorite accessories regardless of color, or pattern.

3. GO WITH THE FLOW

A fitted jumpsuit can make you feel less assured. Instead, try loose fitting styles that allow plenty of room for movement. Light fabrics will not feel restricting, and will generate comfort in the summer heat.

4. DRESS IT UP

To bring your look from day-to-night, dress up your jumpsuit with accessories that suit your personality. A chunky statement necklace can draw attention to your face, instead of all over your body. Adding a belt is another simple way to cater the look according to your body type, and the overall fit of the garment.

5. THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT

Jumpsuits tend to be longer in the legs to accompany different heights. A general rule of thumb is to allow the pant length to reach your ankles. The bottom can touch the ground, but make sure you are still able to walk with ease. If you are going to wear heels or platforms with your piece, be sure to make note of the hemline. Ask an associate to grab a shoe for you to test the outfit in, or at the very least have a great tailor on call for any adjustments you may need.
