'Think Like A Man Too' Wins the Weekend

by Alanna Bennett

Looks like Kevin Hart's doing pretty well for himself these days: Think Like A Man Too earned back its budget and then some in its first turn around the dance floor. It beat out returning challengers 22 Jump Street and How To Train Your Dragon 2. Think Like A Man Too does challenge last weekend's assessment that well-received sequels are the ones performing most solidly for Hollywood, though: In contrast to 22 Jump Street and How To Train Your Dragon 2's high Rotten Tomatoes ratings, Think Like A Man Too is hovering around a 22 percent on the ratings site. But there must be something fun about it, because the film — which also stars Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, Taraji P. Henson, and Wendi McLendon-Covey — brought in $30 million. Considering they made the movie for $24 million, that's a pretty good takeaway.

As Forbes' Scott Mendelson notes, both the original Think Like A Man and this one were "something of an anomaly, a mainstream ensemble romantic comedy that just happened to be filled with black actors and actresses. This was the kind of thing we saw more often in the late 90′s/early 00′s." And now they're back, and apparently just as successful as ever.

22 Jump Street, meanwhile, brought in $29 million, with How To Train Your Dragon 2 brought in $25.3 million. Jersey Boys, meanwhile, also opened this weekend, albeit to only $13.5 million.
