Would Sarah Michelle Gellar Play 'Buffy' Again?

Now that Veronica Mars has a movie, we are at the point in time when people start asking if every canceled-too-early TV show will get a Kickstarter campaign. This week, E! asked it about another television show about a powerful, smart, and snarky female character: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sarah Michelle Gellar has been making the press rounds with Robin Williams lately to promote their new show The Crazy Ones, and thankfully, E! was there to ask the important questions — namely, when is Gellar going to work with Joss Whedon again? Gellar answered:

"Joss and I always talk about [a movie]. But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time."

Okay, that might sound like a no, but hang in there. Because here's what she said next:

"If there was ever the right story, we would do it."

So she's saying there's a chance! Because really, there are so many right stories with Buffy. There are entire comic books full of right stories for Buffy. There's an infinite number of fan fictions possibly full of right stories for Buffy. (Though the majority of them are probably just porn.)

And it's not as if Sarah Michelle Gellar is on the same high horse she was when she left the show in 2003, causing its demise. Her last project before The Crazy Ones was the CW flop Ringer, a drama based around the premise of twins switching places. Not exactly a resume-builder.

Plus, Joss Whedon isn't in the same place he was back in his Buffy years, when almost all his shows were canceled without a proper conclusion. True, it make take him a little while to clear his schedule for a Buffy movie (what with S.H.I.E.L.D., an Avengers sequel, and a rumored sequel to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog), but he has Avengers money now! He can make it happen.

The Internet is basically a television genie now anyways. It's magic, and if you put your wish out on the Internet, it will come true. The Internet will bring Buffy and Angel together (or maybe Spike?). The Internet will un-kill Tara (and Anya!). Really, making a Buffy movie happen is what the Internet was born to do.
