A Braid You Have to See to Believe

by Mary Avant

I’ll just go ahead and put this out there: I truly believe Diane Kruger can do no wrong. I mean, this is a woman who’s not only captivating on the big and small screens alike, but who also has supremely good taste in men (oh, hello, Joshua Jackson) and an incomparable sense of style. In fact, it’s this flawless fashion sense — which doesn’t even require a stylist, might I remind you? — that really makes me adore the German model turned actress.

Whether she’s gracing the Cannes red carpet in a brilliant Christian Dior couture number or keeping it sweet and chic in a perfect-for-spring dress, Kruger’s effortless grace, poise, and ability to wear the most high-fashion ensembles could make even the biggest critics fall head over heels in love with her style.

And (no surprise here) the blonde beauty just ruled the red carpet once again Monday evening when she showed up to The Bridge season two premiere in Hollywood wearing a dynamic, long-sleeved minidress from quirky London-based designer Mary Katrantzou. The high-neck, multihued number featured sheer insets, a scalloped hem, and one show-stopping, traffic sign–adorned pattern, all of which Kruger toned down flawlessly with a simple metallic clutch and a pair of sleek, double-strap sandals.

But as fascinated as I am by this work-of-art ensemble, it’s Kruger’s beauty — and her amazing hairstyle, in particular — that’s really making me go gaga for her premiere look. Matching nearly nude makeup with what appears to be just a simple and sleek low ponytail, Kruger turned around to reveal one amazing braid that’s everything our summer hair routine has been dreaming of.

Featuring not one, but two braids — including a tightly braided version down the middle, which split the two sides of her loose French braid — the style is the ultimate definition of “business in the front, party in the back.” Paired with everything from a supersexy LBD to a worn-in pair of denim shorts, this is a hairstyle that’s sure to be versatile (but always chic) for those hot summer days when wearing your hair down just isn’t an option, but throwing it in a basic ponytail seems too boring.

So if your goal is to nail the star's effortlessly chic vibe this summer (or if, like me, you want to dress like Kruger every single day), this is definitely one hairstyle to add to your rotation. And if you can find a killer dress like hers, too, that's just icing on the cake.
