And the 'Sharknado' Sequel Will Be Named...

by Kate Ward

Syfy has announced that the sequel to the smash Sharknado officially has its title, and it's, well, just as bad as Sharknado was.

According to the network, the follow-up to the monster movie that generated 5,000 tweets per minute during its airing (and a special movie theater screening) will be called Sharknado 2: The Second One.

If you hate it, don't blame Syfy — after announcing the sequel to the film about a shark/tornado hybrid, the network asked Twitter to name the follow-up. Out of all the options (many that you can view here), Sharknado 2: The Second One turned out to be the best. Said the executive producer of programming at Syfy about the network's choice: "Since Twitter played such a huge role in the success of the original movie, we wanted to use that platform to ask our fans to name Sharknado 2 ... This response is another reminder of how Sharknado has become a pop culture phenomenon. We want to thank all our viewers for their wonderful contributions to keeping up the shark-mentum.”

Former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Ian Ziering is set to headline the follow-up, which will take place in New York and could be penned by Lost 's Damon Lindelof, if producers get their wish. (But, let's face it, that's about as possible as Nikki and Paulo rising from the grave.)

Sharknado 2: The Second One is set to air in July 2014, and may or may not star Tara Reid. Depends on how distracted she is writing her next Syfy pitch about whale-shark sex.
