When Are We Sending the Most Sexts? Survey Says...

If you had to hazard a guess as to when people send the majority of their sexts, what would you say? Friday night? The wee hours of Sunday morning? Anytime after 9pm? Well, you’d be wrong. According to a new study, the prime time for sending sexts is on Tuesday mornings. As the Daily Dot put it, why are we all sexting at work?

According to BetaBeat, the study was conducted by monitoring software company Retina-X Studios. In their survey of 4,800 people, they found that most people are sending their naughty little messages not during the late-night booty call hour, but during regular weekday hours between 10am and 12pm. They also found that iPhone users sext nearly twice as often as Android users; as always, though, correlation is not causation, so let’s not jump to any outlandish conclusions.

Callie Buesman over at Jezebel points out that even though Tuesday might seem like a weird choice at first, it actually makes a lot of sense. After all, at night when you’re in the comfort of your own home, you can have actual sex; on Monday morning, you’re “too numb to the world to enjoy sending sexually-explicit pictures or texts”; and by Wednesday, you’re probably too burnt out from the work week so far to have the energy for it. That leaves Tuesday. A convincing argument, no?

Of course, it’s worth noting that due to our consistently weird economy and screwed up job market, an increasing number of people may not actually be “at work” — or at an office — on Tuesday morning. Maybe they work the graveyard shift. Maybe they work at a restaurant, coffee shop, or bar that doesn’t open until later in the day. Maybe they work from home (that would be me, although typically I don’t sext during the work hours I set myself). There are loads of possibilities as to why so many people are available for text-based hanky-panky on Tuesday mornings, and hey, as long as it’s all in good fun, so be it.

Just, y’know… don’t actually engage in any sexual activity at work. It’s generally frowned upon, and it’ll probably get you fired. Yikes.
