Suge Knight Shot at Pre-VMAs Party

by Kenya Foy

This year's pre-VMA activities have been plagued with troubles, including Nicki Minaj's backup dancer being bit by a snake and Iggy Azalea falling off stage during a benefit concert hosted by the VMAs. But the most serious incident thus far involves a shooting that took place at 1OAK early Sunday morning during an unofficial pre-VMAs party hosted by Chris Brown in which Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight was shot, along with three other people. TMZ reports Knight was struck six times and went to the hospital by ambulance where he immediately underwent surgery. Reportedly, Knight is in ICU and expected to make a full recovery, while one of the other victims is in critical condition.

According to multiple reports, at 1:35am PT, two gunshots rang out and club goers immediately scattered. An eyewitness described a chaotic scene to US Weekly. "People were screaming and yelling and most ran out immediately. The floor was covered with glass from everyone dropping their drinks." Despite the severity of Knight's injuries, he reportedly walked through the melee and out of the club where a police officer then stepped in to assist him. Police eventually intervened to disperse the rest of the crowd, which included several other celebrity attendees like Derek Hough, E.J. Johnson, The Game, Tyson Beckford, Richard Simmons and Mark Ballas.

Brown later addressed the incident in a tweet that read, "It's disappointing that we as a society can't have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bullshit!!!" Considering the dangerous nature of this incident, it's worth wondering whether this will have an impact on the actual awards show, specifically in regards to increased security presence. Thus far, there have been no reports of arrests being made in connection with the shooting.

This is Knight's second time being shot at a pre-VMA Awards show. Back in 2005, Knight was shot in the right leg at a pre-VMA bash hosted by Kanye West.
