Everyone Was Jeal of Her Boogie At the VMAs

by Arielle Dachille

And the VMA for "most enthusiastic celeb audience member" goes to OITNB's Laverne Cox! As if you needed any more reasons to love the Orange is the New Black actress, Laverne Cox danced to Beyoncé's performance with abandon last night at the MTV Video Music Awards, while all the surrounding famouses sat about like bumps on a log. Move over, Taylor Swift. The VMA celebrity seating section has a new top groover its midst.

As bored Kardashians and other celebrities looked on, Cox danced to Beyoncé's virtuoso performance in the most fitting way possible — the way we all jam to power ballads alone in our rooms. You know, flipping her hair from side-to-side, wheeling her arms around in the air, and lip-synching with an IDGAF attitude. It’s like she’s dancing to a composite of all the best dance songs ever. Who is jealous of her good time? Clearly, everybody and their half-sister. Laverne’s sheer excitement and the ennui of the surrounding crowd just amplifies this fact. Seriously though, I can almost hear her thoughts, because I’ve been in her shoes a thousand and one times: "Why is NOBODY else dancing??"

Really though, the following gifs will make your day. As you watch Cox silently boogie, think of all the things that she could be shakin’ it to. I’ve compiled a list of the best songs to dub over Laverne Cox’s solo dance party.

She was the belle of the audience cam, and these are the perfect songs to accompany her jamming out.

"September" by Earth Wind & Fire

That beat is infectious...

"Funky Town" by Lipps Inc.

This almost goes too perfectly.

"Nobody's Supposed to Be Here (Dance Mix)" by Deborah Cox

It just captures the feeling so well.

"Call Your Girlfriend" by Robyn

It's no groove sesh without Robyn.

"Barbie Girl" by Aqua

Perfect late '90s jam that everyone needs to sing along to.

"Disco Heaven" by Lady Gaga

Saturday night fever at the VMA's.

"It's Not Right But It's Okay" Whitney Houston

This song is made for lip-synching in public.

"Stranger in my House (Remix)" by Tamia

Another song with a groove that's impossible to fight.

"Jealous of my Boogie" by RuPaul

'Cause everyone wants to cop her boogie.
