'Wrecking Ball' On the Recorder Will Make Your Day

You have not heard "Wrecking Ball" until you have heard this very extreme, very dramatic, very powerful and emotionally drenched rendition of "Wrecking Ball"...on the recorder. "The recorder?" you ask. "But I struggled to play 'Hot Cross Buns' on that thing back in second grade!" To which I reply, "Exactly."

We often forget about the difficult task that is learning to play an instrument like the recorder — let alone imbuing that instrument's sound with feeling. Consequently, we often also cease to remember the passion, the zeal, and the emotion that could exist behind an instrument such as the recorder. In fact, we frequently forget about the recorder in general! We substitute recorders for clarinets, for flutes, for saxophones — nay, a recorder is where the emotion really lies. Art!

Okay, so this might not be a grand case for the study of art in Miley Cyrus's music, but what we do have here is a so-bad-it's-brilliant rendition of "Wrecking Ball." But you've got to hand it to the guy playing the song: He does not skimp on the emotion, especially at 2:50. In fact, he brings the song to levels you might not have ever imagined existed.

And in case you're wondering what prompted him to tackle the recorder, the title of the Reddit post that links to the video might explain it: "My friend is recently unemployed. This is what he has been doing with his time."

Thank you for doing this with your time, you generous soul. You and your recorder certainly — ahem (cue music) — came in like a wrecking ball.
