You Know You're From Killa Queens If...

by Sybil Kollappallil

Ah, the humble borough of Queens, New York: home to the underdog (and by underdog, I mean the New York Mets, le sigh). Many New Yorkers only think of Queens as the place with the AirTrain to JFK Airport or as the borough with all the good Indian food. But for those of us who live here, we know it's much more.

Queens is the eternal home to the artists' mecca that is 5pointz (yes,I still believe we can save it). It is the borough in which some of the greatest TV shows ever created have been filmed ( 30 Rock , Girls and Sesame Street , just to name a few).

Us natives know it as the place that birthed heavyweights like Nas, Lucy Liu, and all of the Ramones. And yes, we know it as the borough that will satisfy any and every food craving, over and over again.

Queens is the most ethnically-diverse of all of the New York City boroughs, and you'd better believe it shows in our plethora of cuisines. Dying for a damn-good dosa? Craving a kick-ass calzone? Um, obviously you're in the right place.

If you're from here, you know what I'm talking about. Queens peeps, let's talk about the things that only we understand.
