Shailene's Body Confidence Has Changed a Lot

by Alyse Whitney

Shailene Woodley is endlessly quotable, and most recently, she's been talking about body confidence. With her upcoming nude scenes in White Bird in a Blizzard, she was quick to note that her "boobs are great" and that her "body is exactly where it wants to be." However, as she got her start in the business on The Secret Life of the American Teenager, she had some different views about weight. She opened up about her struggles of being skinny to Seventeen in 2009, and it's a lot different than the Woodley we know and love now. She said:

I’ve always been like super skinny and not tall. I grew now but I was like super-short growing up. I was always the runt and now I’m like towering over everyone. But my family — we all just have like fast metabolisms, so we’re all lanky. I’m always like "I’m too skinny, I can’t gain weight, even when I try." I'd like to try to not let that get to me.

Now that she's far away from her high school days (both on TV and in real life) she has been getting rid of those bad thoughts. In Marie Claire earlier this year, she reflected back on her self-conscious days, explaining that she simply doesn't care anymore.

My whole life I've been so self-conscious about being skinny. And just recently I don't care anymore. All insecurities are projected because of what you think others are saying about you, but they don't really matter at all. My only real insecurities in high school were having such long legs and thick hair—things I'm so very grateful for now.

This goes along with her stance of “F–k you, insecurity. F–k you, lack of confidence!" that she told InStyle, too. If you're wondering just how much Woodley has changed overall in the past six years, watch this clip of her talking about wearing a fat suit on Secret Life from 2008. My big question is, where did that accent go? It really only adds to her charm. Warning: it will make you feel really, really old.
