If This Guy Makes A Bad Joke Does It Make A Sound?

by Alanna Bennett

My favorite comment on the most recent Instagram from Keeping Up With the Kardashians ' Scott Disick reads simply "dat multiculturalism." Because oh jeez, Disick has made a...questionable joke on social media (the same questionable joke Khloe Kardashian made an hour earlier), and it involves the vaginas of three members of his family and the people they have slept with. This isn't something that's going to go over well with a lot of people, but considering it's Scott Disick we're talking about I'd be pretty surprised if the inevitable backlash actually wound up phasing him.

Scott Disick is, weirdly, someone I really want to root for. Shoving a hundred dollar bill into a waiter's mouth is usually the kind of activity that will automatically disqualify you from that kind of categorization in my mind, but here we are: I watch the various Kardashian shows week after week, and some chunk of that time is spent hoping that Disick can stay at least relatively on-track in terms of not being an alcoholic dickbag.

So when he instagrams something so, ahem, off-color (viewable below), I have three reactions: Disappointment, a complete lack of surprise, and a certain level of resign. Because as much as I would love for part of Disick's next chapter to include a higher level of sensitivity not just for those in his family but also the general world around him, I kind of don't get the feeling that he's there with me. Disick is, after all, a reality star whose "brand" includes being an insensitive dickbag — it's not sustainable for him to constantly be that in his treatment of Kourtney Kardashian, but it is completely sustainable (at least so far) for him to be that way to the rest of us and to human decency in general.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians has included more than its fair share of jokes about the races of the people the sisters engage with — plenty of those jokes spoken by the sisters to the other sisters. So while I cringe and roll my eyes at a joke like this coming from Disick — and while this may trigger its own backlash — I kind of get the feeling Disick himself is just going to chock this up to another day of being him, idol to all who still fedoras and love to complain about their crazy girlfriends.
