Let's Make 'Hocus Pocus 2' Happen, Guys

UPDATE: Success! In addition to Hocus Pocus stars Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy's statements, Sarah Jessica Parker (who portrayed Sanderson sister number 3 in the 1993 film) has released a short and sweet statement of her own about the possibility of a Hocus Pocus sequel — the key word being "sweet." When asked about Hocus Pocus 2 by a fan on Twitter, Sarah Jessica Parker responded: "Yep I'm in. X sj"

It's official: Midler, Najimy, and Parker are all on board. LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN, GUYS.

PREVIOUS 11/12/14: To every late '80s/early '90s kid, this is pretty much the question of the century: Could it be that those rumors of a long-awaited Hocus Pocus sequel are finally coming to be? Unfortunately, it probably won't be helmed by Tina Fey as originally rumored — she's working on another witch film for Disney — but it seems like we're definitely closer than ever to the sequel of our dreams if this new interview is any indication. During a recent Reddit AMA to promote her new album, Hocus Pocus star and Head Witch in Charge Winifred Sanderson herself Bette Midler basically said she's completely game for Hocus Pocus 2 , and that the ball is in Disney's court now to make it happen.

In other words, she is 100% on board.

When asked by one Reddit user whether or not a Hocus Pocus sequel could happen so "my girlfriend can make me stop watching the original every Halloween," Midler responded:

chuckles

You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney company.

The ball's in their court.

Later, due to the massive feedback from fans who were basically salivating at the thought of a sequel to the 1993 cult classic (I know I am!) Midler edited her intro post to add this even more promising hint about the status a second film:

Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are wiling to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a HOCUS POCUS 2, ask the Walt Disney company. You have been SO adorable. This has been most enlightening. SISTAHS!

After Midler's AMA, Kathy Najimy — who portrayed Sanderson sister Mary in the film — released a statement basically echoing what Midler stated: That a Hocus Pocus sequel could happen if Disney gathers that there's genuine fan interest.

I have read Bette's quote and I agree. The outpouring of love from Hocus-ites has been astounding. The creativity of their Sanderson sisters costumes, posters, artwork, T-shirts, statues, TV stills, photos, compliments and line quotes have blown up social media and I want them to know.. We see and appreciate it all. When a film is being shot, you never quite know the impact.. If it'll be a hit or a miss, and..with this one...we hear y'all loud and clear! A sequel is totally in The Disney company's hands-- And it will be exciting to see what transpires!

So...Internet, let's make this happen, OK? We already got a Veronica Mars movie thanks to crowdfunding, and '90s nostalgia is basically at it's peak now...the fact that a Hocus Pocus 2 film isn't in the works already is even more shocking that the fact that it's a possibility, really. It seems like a no-brainer if Midler, Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker are completely game to be involved. Whether it's going to take a letter-writing campaign, dressing up like the Sanderson sisters every single day, or creating a Kickstarter, this movie needs to happen. If only for the fabulousness:
