10 Scenes to Watch While at Home on Black Friday

by Rachel Semigran

It's that time of year again, that frustrating, horrifying, exciting, dangerous time of year. So, prepare yourselves, because Black Friday is coming. The sales might be tempting, but the thought of leaving my turkey and red wine-induced coma in order to elbow a thousand grumpy consumers to get a $99 TV feels less than worth it. Call me crazy, but no special on bath towels will get me to a mall at two o'clock in the morning. It's no longer just Black Friday that rings in the unofficial start of the holiday shopping season. This year, dozens of retailers will be open on Thanksgiving Day to give the public a head start on making CNN Headlines.

If you are one of those shoppers who wants to brave the mall on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, then you do you. Who knows? The manic euphoria of the bargains might be just the right antidote to hours of your family driving you nuts. In any case, I'll be spending Black Friday with my Thanksgiving leftovers and Netflix. Thankfully there are plenty of movies with iconic mall scenes to help get me in the spirit and prepare for the inevitable trip to the land of scented candle shops and kitschy sock pagodas this holiday season.

In honor of Black Friday here are some of the very best mall scenes.

Clueless

In the words of Cher Horowitz, "I had to find sanctuary in a place where I could gather my thoughts and regain my strength..." This, ladies and germs, is the great American mall. It's where Dion gives us her philosophy on buyer's remorse and where Tai's whole life flashed before her eyes. Such a wondrous place.

A Christmas Story

"You'll shoot your eye out!" And there was never a more iconic Mall Santa moment in film history.

Mean Girls

If you ever wanted to know what being a teen in the aughts was like, look no further than Mean Girls. It's also a great place to visit if you're looking for a lotion that'll make your face smell like a foot. Now get in loser, we're going shopping.

Big

FAO Schwarz isn't technically the mall, but this scene is enough to rank it amongst the finest moments in retail meccas.

Mallrats

BEN AFFLECK IN THAT RIDICULOUS SUIT IS EVERYTHING.

Blues Brothers

I, too, have wanted out of a mall parking lot that badly.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

It's the granddaddy of teen comedies so of course the mall is vital to its plot. You can also blame this scene for every dating disaster of your high school through college life.

Valley Girl

It's, like, totally all about young bad boy Nicolas Cage, you know?

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Where else can Ghengis Khan go bonkers in a sporting goods store and where else can Beethoven get into trouble with the cops?

Back to the Future

Where would Marty McFly and Doc be without the Twin Pines Mall parking lot? Now stand back, you're about to see some serious sh*t!
