One day she appears chic, calm, and collected, and then next she has reportedly thrown a minor temper tantrum and enraged the press, all clad in unflattering clothing. Perhaps her mercurial behavior is the result of a lifetime spent in the spotlight, but whatever the reason, Heigl and her style keep the world on its toes. In honor of Throwback Thursday, here are some of Heigl's sartorial hits and misses of the early 2000s.
Hit: The Black Monochrome Look, 2001
Anytime a well-tailored, monochrome ensemble hits the red carpet rendered in luxe materials, the effect is flattering and chic.
Miss: The Chunky Scarf And Jeans
Though I appreciate the innate comfort of this knit-heavy ensemble, it looks more appropriate for a cabin getaway than the red carpet.
Hit: The Velvet Blazer
The layered necklaces on this ensemble were overkill, but the burgundy velvet blazer perfectly encapsulated early aughts style.
Hit: The Printed Peasant Blouse
The checkered, floral print of this peasant blouse jibed well with Heigl’s white trousers.
Hit: The Handkerchief Hem Dress
The lightly ruffled, layered hemline of this printed frock is delightfully flirtatious and feminine.
Miss: The Kimono Dress
The saturated colors and ultra-glossy finish of this kimono dress are slightly overdone, though Heigl deserves points for effort.

Though I would happily snag a scarf like Heigl’s, this earth-toned ensemble is a bit too busy. Stripes, suede, and multiple muted shades? Simple is always a safer choice.
Miss: The Literal Handkerchief Hem Dress
Heigel’s flared skirt, seemingly made out of stolen vintage silken handkerchiefs, is too much of a literal take on the trend for my taste.
Miss: The Chunky Cowl-Neck Sweater
The sweater in itself isn’t offensive, but the rave-worthy glow stick necklace which Heigl accented it with is reprehensible.
Miss: The Vintage-Inspired Frock
So close, yet still so lacking, Heigl’s satin ’50s-inspired frock would have flourished with a natural waist instead of a drop waist, and without its sad matching belt.
Hit: The '40s-Style Mermaid Gown
When Heigl has a sartorial win, it’s never in a simple shift or plain pants. Glamour is the actress’ middle name, and when she selects form-fitting gowns with subtle accents like this white mermaid number, she instantly knocks other actresses off their pedestals.
Miss: The 70s Suit
Somewhere, John Travolta is feverishly missing his Saturday Night Fever getup.
Hit And Miss: The Nude Silk Frock
Though its delicately draped silk constitution and defined waist earn major sartorial points, the nude shade of this frock is a skoch close to Hiegl’s skin tone.
