19 Amazing AMAs Hair Moments, From Taylor Swift's Shag To Iggy Azalea's Curls

The 2014 American Music Awards were literally riddled with amazing hair moments. More specifically, the 2014 AMAs were all about statement hair that wasn't outrageous or out there. Yes, the dresses were awesome and of a wide variety of cuts, shapes, silhouettes, and styles, but it was the hair, a lot of which was center-parted, that felt like it was most memorable. Thankfully, many of our favorite singing starlets didn't resort to crazy wigs or extensions, so we all have hope of recreating the looks ourselves.

Taylor Swift rocked a beachy shag, while Iggy Azalea went with big, '90s diva-like curls. Ariana Grande had what felt like faux bangs, while Kylie Jenner was punk rock with her blue dip-dye.

In case you missed the AMAs broadcast, or even if you were glued to the TV and DVR'd the ceremony so you can re-watch it, you can relive all the amazing hair moments of the 2014 AMAs right here, right now.

Taylor Swift's Old Hollywood Glam

Taylor Swift performed her crazy ex-girlfriend anthem “Blank Space” with Old Hollywood glam curls, which were different from and more than defined than…

Shag It Off

…her red carpet ‘do. I’m willing to bet that Swift’s messy shag looks was created with some sea salt spray and some finger styling. I love when she lets her hair loose!

Iggy Azalea's Big, '90s Curls

Rapper Iggy Azalea wore a fitted black pantsuit but it was her tresses that were truly “Fancy.” She rocked a big, frizzy curl pony that totally reminds me of Whitney Houston in her “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” video and Mariah Carey during the “Vision of Love” phase.

Ariana Grande's New Hair Signature Is...

…sorta bangs! Of course her half-up, half-down pony was in full effect, because if she ditched it, no doubt there would be some sort of thermal event or the shifting of tectonic plates, making everything in the world seem a bit off. But check out those long, faux bangs! A sweet way to add some dimension to her much addressed ‘do.

J. Lo's Push Back

Jennifer Lopez wore a pushed back style on the red carpet, which showed off her eyes and her sculpted cheekbones. It was a bit mussed and no-fuss, which are not usual or expected Lopez traits. Perhaps she was preparing for her onstage look?

Oh Hey, Fierce J. Lo Wet Look

This just-outta-the-shower look was fierce when paired with her expressive performance faces and her red hot outfit.

Nicki Minaj's Basic Black Bob

Nicki Minaj is so over the wild wigs in outrageous colors — and frankly, so was I. Her basic black, blunt bob with its severe center part was insanely chic and totally Rihanna-esque. It highlighted Her Minajesty’s beauty without gimmicks or antics.

Jessie J's Severe Center Part

English rose Jessie J — who shot to fame with a glossy bob and heavy bangs, then shaved her head for charity a few years back — showed off mega-long locks with a severe center part, like her “Bang Bang” cohort Nicki Minaj. Since the Double J is so stunning, she can easily pull this ’60s hippie chick chic look off, especially when paired with a white pantsuit and minimal makeup.

Meghan Trainor's Mega Blonde

Meghan Trainor had locks for days with her mega white blonde strands. She was a total California girl, at least with her long and layered strands, which had a deep side part.

Rita Ora's Topknot

The fashion plate rocked statement eyelashes and a tight, twisted topknot. Her bunhead look certainly forced the eye to focus on her face and her bare shoulders.

Kylie Jenner Goes Punk Rock

Kylie Jenner has resurrected her blue/teal tips and she was in full punk rock mode and defying her mother Kris Jenner, who is said to disapprove of her youngest’s blue hue. Yes, her oft-discussed lips looked very full and expertly lined, but her messy, dip-dye job was totally aces and worked with her ruby red dress.

Kendall Jenner Does The Center Part, Too

Like Jessie J and Nicki Minaj, the model also did a severe center part that had a decidedly ’60s vibe. But the sheen and the glossy, and the shiny texture of her chocolate locks kept this look modern and rooted, quite literally, in the now.

Chali XCX's Glam Waves

Charli XCX, who provided the unforgettable hook in Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” hit the red carpet with her thick, brown locks tumbling in glam waves with a deep side part. Since Miss XCX often owns her edgy and messy look, this was such an unexpected and ladylike departure for her. Until…

Charli XCX's Wild Child Waves

…she hit the stage and performed with her signature wild child waves.

Jordin Sparks '80s Spiral Perm

In the ’80s, all I ever wanted was a spiral perm. At that time, I hated having straight hair and this, this was the look I was always hoping to achieve. Singer Jordin Sparks, who split with Jason Derulo earlier this year, is proving that living well and looking good is the best revenge! Her cascade of tight spiral curls was so, so diva, like a modern day Diana Ross. Note the septum piercing, which continues to have a moment beyond Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Selena Gomez Is Also Front And Center

Gomez walked the red carpet with a center-parted bun so we could all see her face and her earrings.

Selena Gomez Goes Goddess

But Gomez ditched the black dress and severe, swept back hair for a blush, soft dress and flowing, slightly wavy locks.

Fergie's Waves

Fergie Ferg caught the wave. The singer, who is promoting her next solo album, also went with a deep side part and long, buttery waves tumbling along one shoulder. This is a case where being one-sided is good.

Lucy Hale's Lob

Pretty Little Liars’ Lucy Hale showed off her fresh cut on the red carpet, and I instantly fell in love. That ombre? On point.
