Why Rachel McAdams Is the Perfect 'TD' Choice

There's been a ton of speculation over the last few months, but on Monday HBO finally announced that Rachel McAdams has been cast in True Detective 's second season, along with the likes of Friday Night Lights star Taylor Kitsch and Black Box 's Kelly Reilly. McAdams will star in the series and portray the role of Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves. In other words, she's pretty much going to be a force to the reckoned with and I, for one, can't wait to see all of the badass feminism the actress is sure to bring to this highly compelling series.

Because don't let that adorable smile and sweet demeanor fool you — McAdams is no damsel in distress. In fact, even in her rom-com roles, the actress has emitted a sense of strength throughout her characters that makes me extremely confident in the type of feministic quality she'll bring to the True Detective table. There's a new sheriff in town, TD fans, and something tells me it's going to make for the best season yet. But just in case my word alone isn't enough to convince you of McAdams' potential, I've also taken the liberty of providing undeniable proof that she's the right woman for the job.

She Doesn't Let Others Push Her Around

Judging by her TD character description, McAdams is going to have quite the time butting heads with others for what she believes is right. But that won't be the first time she's gone up against authorities figures in a role. We all remember how hard she fought for her relationship with Noah in The Notebook despite her parents' obvious objections. She remained true to herself and never backed down — a tough, stubborn quality I have no doubt McAdam will be more than able to repeat.

She's Passionate About Every Project She Takes On

If the actor or actress isn't excited about the role they've signed up for, chances are that indifference will be reflected in their performance. But McAdams is invested in every single project she takes on. So the fact that she signed up for True Detective proves how much she believes in the show and the part she's gearing up to play. Attitude is everything, my friend.

She Has No Problem Calling Men Out on Their BS

Whoever said that it's a man's world clearly has never met McAdams' portrayal of Regina George.

And Several Different Occasions

Does anyone smell smoke? Because it looks as though someone just got burned.

She's Gone Up Against Evil Men Before & Won

Remember that pen-to-the-throat scene in Red Eye? That was some hardcore badassery right there. Sorry, Cillian Murphy, but you totally deserved it. Don't mess with this chick.

She Isn't Afraid to Go "Under Cover"

And when it comes to deduction skills, let's not forget that she was trained by the best.

So welcome to the small screen, Rachel McAdams. We're happy to have you!
