Katniss and Peeta Do It: Real or Not Real?

by Nicole Pomarico

If you are under the impression that any part of The Hunger Games series is a romance, you must be under the spell of Gale's smoldering gaze, because it couldn't be farther from a love story. That doesn't mean there aren't obviously a few romantic elements, like Katniss' decision between Peeta and Gale, and it does add a nice break from, you know, all the carnage. And considering all that Katniss and Peeta have been through, it wouldn't be surprising if they turned to each other for a little extra comfort, if you know what I mean. Here's the real question: Do Katniss and Peeta ever do it? If you haven't read the books and you don't want to be spoiled, I'd stop reading here, because I'm about to drop a major bomb on you. At the end of Mockingjay, Katniss and Peeta totally do it — if, of course, "it" means sex.

Don't worry, Suzanne Collins isn't about to go all Fifty Shades of Grey on you. Their sex is simply implied in one of the final paragraphs of the final chapter, and in the epilogue, Katniss mentions the children she and Peeta have, and children usually appear after having sex. But when you ask a question like, "Do Katniss and Peeta do it?" you're actually opening up a very profound discussion. "It" can mean a lot of things, my friend. A lot of things.

If "it" means survive two consecutive Hunger Games...

Yes. Katniss and Peeta do it. It's also, like, the main plot line for the entire series, so I really hope I didn't just ruin anything for you here.

If "it" means share baking tips...

No, Peeta and Katniss don't do it — well, not as far as the books tell us. Although I'm sure there had to be some downtime when nobody was trying to kill them and Peeta's mad baking skillz came up in conversation. He's practically the Cake Boss of Panem, after all. Is there anything better than a man who can whip up a mean cupcake? Yes, and his name is Gale. Moving on.

If "it" means starting a nationwide rebellion...

Then yes, Katniss and Peeta do, in fact, do it. Except it's mainly Katniss's gig, because she's the HBIC. Peeta's just there for backup and the occasional torture scene.

If "it" means Katniss led Peeta on when she didn't actually have feelings for him...

Yes, Katniss and Peeta do that too. OK, so eventually her feelings become real — or so she says. I don't know how much I trust her.

If "it" means go rollerblading over Snow's cold, dead body...

No, Katniss and Peeta do not do it. Although I wish they would. That would be the most incredible scene. And I bet they'd want to.

If "it" means take down their country's government...

Yes, Katniss and Peeta do it. Who says teenagers are powerless? If I'd known this fact at their age, the possibilities would be endless. Our national anthem probably would've changed to something by the Jonas Brothers, honestly.

If "it" means trip on their way to the stage to accept their Oscar...

Nope, that was just Jennifer Lawrence. And in that moment, I never loved anybody more. If GIFs are still a thing when I start having kids, I will show them exactly what happened to the woman I hope will be our president by then.
