Do you hear that? That's the sound of a ticking clock coming from the belly of a certain crocodile, reminding you to tune in to NBC's Peter Pan Live! at 8 p.m. (ET) on Dec. 4. Because even if you're not a huge musical buff, you know you're extremely curious to see Allison Williams take flight as the boy you never grew up and Christopher Walken don that famous hook. And given that everything will be happening in real time (hence the whole "Live!" part of the title), it definitely adds an extra layer of excitement into the mix. But now that we know the what and when, it's time to figure out the how — as in, exactly how long is Peter Pan Live! ?
As it turns out, the production will last for a total of three hours, beginning at 8 p.m. (ET) and lasting until 11 p.m. (ET). And yes, I know what you're thinking. That seems a little long considering the original movie was only a whopping 77 minutes. So what makes this version so different? Well, for one thing, Peter Pan Live! is adding a bunch of new songs into the storyline, which is bound to eat up quite a big chunk of time. But never fear my lost boys and girls, for I have a feeling that the time — much like Peter Pan himself — is going to fly right by during this trip to Neverland. And here's why…
The Familiar Faces
As I mentioned earlier, some of you may not be huge fans of musical theater, however, the fact that this project is being led by some very well known actors such as Walken, Williams, Minnie Driver, and Christian Borle, it's guaranteed to make the experience all the more enjoyable. Christopher Walken Dancing > Everything Else
On behalf of everyone who's ever witnessed Walken's dancing capabilities firsthand (see the Hairspray clip above), let me assure you that it's quite the sight to behold. This codfish is bound to have some swashbuckling moves that are well worth your time.
Live Singing Is Always Entertaining
I am by no means a singing expert. In fact, I'd say my karaoke performances are subpar at best. However, that doesn't mean I don't still enjoy sitting atop my soap box at home and privately critiquing how good (or bad) a musical performer is doing, especially when it's completely live. And I'm certainly not the only one who feels that way. (Why do you think reality singing shows are so popular?) Just the heightened anticipation that anything could happen or go wrong is cause enough to make the hours speed by.
When In Doubt, Drink It Out
Of course, if none of these reasons sound like they'd work for you, there's always the option of turning this TV watching experience into a fun drinking game with friends. (One shot every time you hear a clock ticking. Two shots whenever CGI Tink takes center stage.) After all, to drink would be an awfully big adventure.
