Which Female Duet on 'The Pinkprint' Was the Best?

by Kadeen Griffiths

If you haven't heard it yet, then you need to run to iTunes right now and download Nicki Minaj's latest album The Pinkprint. It's one of the best and most personal albums that Minaj has ever done, superimposed against the kind of amazing rap offerings that wouldn't be out of place on any of the Pink Friday albums. However, one of the best things about Minaj's album for me was the sheer number of duets she did with other female artists: "Feeling Myself" with Beyoncé, "Bed of Lies" with Skylar Grey, and "Get On Your Knees" with Ariana Grande. Minaj has already worked with Grande (and Jessie J) on "Bang Bang," but these three Pinkprint songs were on a whole new level. But which girl power duet was the best?

To be fair, all of them were pretty much equally amazing. While "Feeling Myself" and "Get On Your Knees" were dance offerings, "Bed of Lies" was emotionally raw and real in a way that really made you feel for Minaj. It seems almost unfair to compare the three since they each have something different to offer, but we're all very busy people. We need to know which of these songs is deserving of repeat plays on our iPods and which one we should listen to once and then skip. In light of that, let's do a little lyrical analysis.

"Bed of Lies"

Chorus: "Do you ever think of me when you lie down in your bed of lies? And I knew better than to look in your eyes. They only pretend you would be mine. And, oh, how you made me believe; you had me caught in every web that you weave. But do you ever think of me when you lie down in your bed of lies?"

Best Line: "Does she know I've been in that bed before? A thousand count, and not a single thread of truth."

Status: Sobbing commences in three... two... one...

Result: Like I said, it seems a little unfair to compare "Bed of Lies" to the other two songs because it's in an entirely different genre of feels than they are. "Bed of Lies" is notable for being a personal reflection that reaches into your heart and squeezes and it's totally awesome on that basis. But if you're in the mood to twerk a little, then you might want to give this one a skip.

"Get On Your Knees"

Chorus: "Get on your knees, get on your knees, get on your knees. Baby, just get on your knees. Say pretty please, say pretty please, say pretty please. Baby just say pretty please."

Best Line: "Got me seein' them fireworks, I'm on my Kate Perry."

Status: Excuse me while I fan myself.

Result: "Get On Your Knees" is an unabashedly uncensored and unapologetic song about sex. Literally, you feel like you have to be of a certain age to listen to it without half the lyrics edited out. It's a sexy song that has the bonus effect of making you feel sexy just listening to it, so if you're getting ready to hit the town with your girl friends then you might want to turn this on. If you're visiting your family, you might want to take this off your iPod.

"Feeling Myself"

Chorus: "I'm feelin' myself, I'm feelin' myself. I'm feelin' my, feelin' myself."

Best Line: "I stopped the world. Male or female, it make no difference. I stop the world, world stop... Carry on."

Status: They woke up like this — flawless.

Result: "Feeling Myself" isn't just amazing because it's Beyoncé and Minaj back together again. It's amazing because it's a feel good, girl power, confidence-boosting anthem that really gets you hyped up on your awesome greatness. This is the song you play when you're heading to the club and want to feel like you're already the hottest girl there, or to play when you're leaving the house in the morning and want to start the day off on a good note. So, which female duet on The Pinkprint is the best? Sorry, but it seems like they all win this round. At least now you know which one to play to match your mood.
