This 'Dragon Blade' Trailer Already Looks Intense

Who would've thought to combine Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody in a record-breaking, action-packed period film? Well, apparently China saw some major potential in nabbing the unlikely trio for its upcoming film Dragon Blade — and, as Variety reports, the movie is already officially one of China's most expensive films ever, with a confirmed production budget at $65 million. Thankfully, though, the new trailer for Dragon Blade is here, and already it doesn't look like it was all for nothing: Judging by the clip, they put their movie-making prowess to good use by way of an intriguing storyline, accompanied by some pretty intense visuals.

Directed by Daniel Lee, Dragon Blade takes place in China and chronicles a fierce battle between a Roman empire and the ancient Han dynasty. The story follows Chinese leader Huo An (played by Chan), who aligns himself with an unlikely ally — a Roman soldier named Lucius, convincingly portrayed by Cusack. Meanwhile, Brody takes on the role of the blood-thirsty character Tiberius, a Roman general who has his sights set on attaining power and killing Lucius.

Chan, along with Susanna Tsang, also serves as one of the film's producers. In Dragon Blade, his role doesn't appear to be anything extraordinary, specifically when compared to the other action films in which he displays his martial arts skills (The Karate Kid, Rush Hour). The only noticeably difference (and a little bit distracting) is Chan's goofy-looking wig, but hopefully the plot and Chan's onscreen chemistry with Cusack and Brody's characters will make up for that.

Anyway, here's to hoping the film will be popular enough for China to earn a substantial return on its hefty investment. While there is no official domestic release date yet, Dragon Blade opens in China on Feb. 18, 2015.
