Samantha Jade's New Single Is Pretty Sweet

Australian pop star Samantha Jade's new single, "Sweet Talk," debuted over a month ago, but the ridiculously catchy track is just now starting to gain some attention online — and I couldn't be more happy about it! "Sweet Talk" takes the best parts of a Katy Perry song (think: "Birthday"), a Mariah Carey song (think: "Dreamlover"), and an Ariana Grande song (think: "Piano"), and mashes them all together to create one glorious, three-and-a-half-minute-long, totally irresistible pop music confection that you just won't be able to get out of your head.

Come to think of it, there's probably even a little dash of Carly Rae Jepsen's Kiss album in the mix, too! Of course, that's not to say that Jade doesn't inject any of her own personality into "Sweet Talk" (her vocal performance is intoxicating), but the track definitely owes a portion of its appeal to the aforementioned artists. I love it.

So, who is Jade, anyway? The super-talented 27-year-old singer-songwriter caught her big break in 2012 when she won Season 4 of X Factor Australia . Afterwards, she signed a recording contract with Sony Music, put out a self-titled debut album ("What You've Done to Me" is wonderful), and is currently hard at work on her sophomore LP, which is set to be released in 2015. "Sweet Talk" serves as the project's lead single.

On the bubbly first verse and pre-chorus, Jade sings:

Oh baby, when you're next to me

I feel like I'm in ecstasy

Oh baby, when you look my way

I hear the things you wanna say

And when your body moves close to mine

I get a rush I can't describe

When you get my heart beating like

Oh baby, oh baby

'Cause you know how to read my mind

Telling you it's about that time

And nothing could be better

The chorus sounds how a watermelon Jolly Rancher tastes:

I want your sweet talk

Talking to me all night

Filling me with love

What's love without your sweet talk?

Keep it comin', don't stop

'Til we turn the lights back on

Baby, I want you to...

Sweet talk to me

Sweet talk to me

Sweet talk to me

That sweetness on your lips, I need a taste of it

With any luck, "Sweet Talk" will become a stateside hit in the New Year! If you're in love with the song like I am, you can purchase it on iTunes now.
