Al Qaeda Says It Was Behind 'Charlie Hebdo'

A member of the terrorist group's Yemen branch has said al Qaeda was behind the attack on Charlie Hebdo that left 12 dead, the AP reports. In a statement to the Associated Press, a source said: “The leadership of AQAP directed the operations and they have chosen their target carefully.” The statement added that the act served "as revenge for the honor” of the Prophet Muhammed.

The statement said that Al Qaeda had "warned" the West of retaliation, but had delayed publication of their role in Charlie Hebdo because of "security reasons."
