'Problem Child' Fans, Your Dreams Are Coming True

by Kenya Foy

Anyone else remember the movie Problem Child ? The 1990 film starring John Ritter as a well-intentioned guy that wound up adopting the most obnoxious, red-headed child who probably would've been perfect as the face of a birth control ad? Yeah, well if you thought that kid's awful antics breezed out the window with the '90s, I have two horrifying words for you: Junior's back — or, at least, he's on the way. According to Deadline, NBC ordered a Problem Child pilot that will be inspired by the original comedy film.

Problem Child will feature writing from Scot Armstrong who, along with Brian Grazer, will serve as executive producer. If you're not familiar, Armstrong also worked on films like Old School and The Hangover Part II, and Grazer has been apart of countless popular television shows and movies including A Beautiful Mind and Arrested Development — so you know this show is going to be a success. Oh, and all you hardcore Problem Child fans who are worried that a series won't stay true to the genius of the original film, don't worry: Robert Simonds, the guy who developed and produced the original 1990 film (as well as its subsequent 1991 sequel, Problem Child 2), will be involved with the series as a producer alongside Armstrong and Grazer.

As for the plot, it looks like the series plans to stick to the tried and true plot of the movie — which is, to say, we'll get to watch another kid wreak adorable havoc on everything in his vicinity. According to reports, the series is described as "a family show" that will follow a family's (presumably failed) efforts to effectively manage an intelligent terror of a child.

Who else can't wait?
