Krysta Rodriguez Announces She Has Cancer

If you were a fan of NBC's Smash, the you probably recognize the woman above for playing Ana Vargas. Well, there is some very sad news about the actress. Krysta Rodriguez is battling breast cancer at the age of 30, but she is taking the disease head on and won't let it run her life. She announced the news through her blog, ChemoCouture, with an uplifting, funny, and inspiring post titled "It's a whole long boob story...," where she candidly talks about being diagnosed with cancer and how she plans to fight it. The beginning of her post reads:

On September 24, 2014 at age 30, I was diagnosed with stage 2B ductal carcinoma: in-situ and invasive. Fancy words for breast cancer. Now as far as cancer goes, I have the Cadillac of tumors. It’s slow growing, highly treatable and not really interested in spreading. My doctor calls it an "old lady cancer." I always knew I was ahead of my time! Picture a lump sitting in a BarcaLounger eating Cheetos and enjoying the warm, cozy studio apartment I’ve been providing for it on Left Breast Lane. No one would want to leave that, am I right? Well, sorry buddy. I’m the landlord from hell and it’s eviction time.

Anyone who can make an analogy between breast cancer and Cheetos is an inspiration in my book. As you can see, Rodriguez hasn't lost her sense of humor or her positivity, which will surely inspire others dealing with the disease.

The actress admits that she didn't want to go through with chemo, because of "vanity reasons," including the fact that she didn't want to lose her hair, or as she puts it: "I’m a Leo and we lions love our hair." Also, she was hesitant because of fertility reasons. However, she put some "of those suckers [eggs] on ice." Rodriguez doesn't want others to feel bad for her or for anyone to compare her to actresses who've shaved their heads. She writes,

I’m an actress. I make my living with my appearance to some degree. So being confronted with the idea of my whole body changing has been a tough one. Oh, and for the record, telling me how beautiful Natalie Portman looked with a shaved head or sending me pics of a waify Anne Hathaway is not helping. They do not have cancer. They do not have the nausea, bone pain or paralysis. They are not struggling to feel like themselves at every moment of the day. They just look really good with a buzz cut.

With all of that said, Rodriguez promises she is "going to try to live as loudly as [she] can," which is part of the reason she started her blog. She plans to share her "beauty tips, fashion ideas, and diet change that have altered [her] life drastically." Rodriguez is there to help others and for anyone and everyone to help her through the process as well.

Wow. Have you ever read a more inspiring and humorous post about fighting cancer? If anyone can beat this, it's Rodriguez, especially with her positive attitude.
