Victoria's Secret Is Bringing A New Special To TV

by Rosie Narasaki

Worried you missed last year's Victoria's Secret Swim Special? Don't be — this year's is the first one. In a way, it's the very first time we're getting a devoted look at what it's like for the Victoria's Secret Angels behind the scenes. After all, the special is an hour long, so we'll have lots of time to get a feel for what they're up to.

How funny is it, though, that there have been over a decade of the fabulousness that is the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (yep, it's been around since the early aughts), but that this is the first ever swimsuit fashion show? I mean, when you think about it, a swimsuit fashion show actually makes a lot more sense, because most people watching can't exactly wear the intricate outfits modeled at the Fashion Show in daily life — outside of, say, Lady Gaga or maybe Cher. Swimsuits, on the other hand, are something that all of us are going to need at some point or other. And while February isn't exactly swimsuit season, you can never be too prepared for summer. In fact, I'm surprised Victoria's Secret hasn't done a swimsuit fashion show before. Here are four reasons why the Victoria's Secret Swim Special is the perfect addition to the brand's TV lineup.

The Subject Matter

Come on, ladies clad in chic bikinis are a lot more relatable than ladies dressed as Sexy Santa with Candy Cane Wings, no matter how awesome said Candy Cane Wings happen to be.

The Scenery

A vicarious jaunt to Puerto Rico might actually be nice around this time of year — it'll be a nice escape from the sub-freezing temperatures.

The Luxury

We're going to see the Angels doing their fair share of hard work during the special, but we're also going to get to see them living a life of luxury and leisure. Remember what I said before about living vicariously? That should come in handy as we watch them idyllically hang out poolside.

The Utilitarianism

If you're looking for a suit for summer, this might just be a nice jumping off point. I mean, when you think about it, the whole event is kind of like a televised catalogue — so why not use it as such, and get your swim shopping done a few months early?
