Moschino Was Everything We Loved About The '90s

by Augusta Statz

Moschino, Moschino. Where do I even begin? Known for his bold, outrageous runway shows (McDonald’s and Barbie were the inspiration for his previous collections — as if you could forget!), Jeremy Scott never fails to deliver when it comes to surprising us. In keeping with this style, Moschino's F/W 2015 runway show at MFW was full of eye-opening fashion. And I couldn’t have been happier that it happened on a Thursday, because this show had #TBT written all over it.

The collection had strong ‘90s hip-hop vibes that we all know and … love? Yeah, we’ll go with that. Love it or hate it, the '90s are absolutely everywhere, so it's unsurprising that Moschino would be getting in on the action. Scott sent 65 pieces down the runway, which seems ridiculous. I mean, that’s a lot of clothing! But, Scott definitely knows how to hold the audience's attention. And that’s a quality you’ve got to admire about the designer. I know I do!

The first portion of the show featured what I can only describe as “puffy” everything. Jackets, pants, overalls, skirts. Go with me here. You’ll see what I mean. Oh, and bucket hats, of course. Because you can’t throw it back to the ‘90s without them.

Part two showcased a favorite part of the decade for many of us — Looney Tunes. Who could forget Bugs, Daffy, Tweety and the gang? Scott gave these classic characters a high-fashion twist on sweaters and jerseys. Remind anyone of Space Jam ?! Who’s with me? Sporting chains and boom boxes, this was the coolest they’ve looked since they first graced our television screens.

And next up, denim and chains. A new take on the denim skirt, patchwork denim overalls, jackets adorned with tons of gold chains, and t-shirts. My fav look from this section was a hoodie skirt. It was nice to see the hoodie reimagined in a fresh way. And the best part: the look was accessorized with a combination lock purse, naturally.

The designer sent a slew of teddy bear inspired wares down the runway as well. I'd kill to get my hands on that adorable printed hoodie!

The teddy bears gave way to super graphic camouflage prints that definitely stood out instead of blending in. I personally liked the all-over camouflage look from this section, and the bag that was paired with it, which reminded me of a fanny pack, but better — because it’s hard not to be better, right?

And finally, the grand finale of the entire collection: the graffiti gowns. Yes, graffiti. So Fresh Prince of Bel Air. The prints provided such a good juxtaposition with the elegant silhouettes of the totally evening appropriate dresses. I could so see Miley Cyrus rocking one of these gems.

I like how Scott was able to put a distinctly Moschino, distinctly 2015 spin on these totally '90s trends. All that was missing for me was a Furby inspired look. Next time, Jeremy Scott?
