Book Suggestions for Newsmakers

It's been a week of big news around the world. We've got a few book recommendations for headline makers when they have a chance to read up.

I've been Yellin' for Yellen all week! The newly appointed Fed chair Janet Yellen is brilliant, will be an ally for the unemployed and underemployed, and, best of all, is not the sexist loaf that Larry Summers is. I'm very excited and hopeful. Oh, the Thinks You Can Think , Jan!

As excited as I am thinking of Jan, I am disgusted, per usual, with the GOP. While the government is embarrassingly still shut down and they pitifully asked for an increased debt ceiling, leaders of the party gathered for an off-the-record gala and had some laughs, poking fun at Cheney and Rumsfeld's history of war crimes and waterboarding. "Here's to Dickie! Long may he sneer and deny prisoners human rights! Waiter, top off my buttered rum!" It's like how Prince Prospero partied with all the non-sick people in Poe's " Masque of the Red Death."While I certainly won't be toasting Dick or Don, I will be raising a glass to Alice Munro, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Congrats, dearly deserving Alice! You deserve, in addition, a whole chapter in The History of Canada. I will make some calls at once.Get reading, pals! Bon weekend to all.
