Do You Consider These Runway Models Offensive?

Sure, Kim Kardashian's freshly dyed blonde locks may have given them a run for their money, but the models from the Maison Margiela show show definitely won Most Bizarre Sight at Paris Fashion Week. Quite an accomplishment, indeed! John Galliano had models imitating old ladies on the runway at Maison Margiela and it was certainly bizarre, if not a little bit offensive.

The catwalkers of the Paris Fashion Week show strutted — ahem, hobbled — down the runway in choppy, orange wigs and makeup that reviled that of any top-notch Cirque du Soleil performer. But the strangest part? The models were hunched over in hard-to-watch impersonations of old women with limited mobility.

John Galliano is no stranger to controversy, so it's no surprise that his first ready-to-wear presentation for the design house would push the envelope. But should we be offended by this attention-grabbing move? Seriously, that walk is just plain bizarre. And I'll admit that I spent a good 10 minutes laughing at all the Vines on repeat of the hunchbacked models. But, there's something a little icky about the references to 'madness' in many of the tweets out there, insinuating that the models strange appearances were meant as a play on mental illness. The whole thing was uncomfortably reminiscent of Derelicte from Zoolander. Ehh, not cool guys...

Or Galliano could just be channeling me when I'm walking down the street, fighting the polar vertex. I'm all for a little bit of eccentricity, but this crosses a line. Check out some clips from the runway and decide for yourself.
