Laser Tattoo Removal As An Anti-Aging Remedy?

by Catie Keck

Forget the masks and microdermabrasion, a new frontier of youthful indulgence is nearing. According to Yahoo Beauty, celebrities are opting instead for tattoo removal treatments for an anti-aging treatment that uses a PicoWay laser. Everyone from Beyoncé to (of course) Kim Kardashian are hopping on the one way Pico express to Flawlesstown. It’s not my place to speculate on whether this course of treatment has any long term repercussions (or like, further perpetuates any societal pressures to altogether suspend aging in women), but I’ll stick with the face scrub, thanks.

Dermatologist to the stars Dr. Harold Lancer says that the popularity of PicoWay has to do primarily with its effectiveness in “heating the skin,” and ultimately affecting pigmentation. This makes it useful for removing traditional signs of aging like brown spots on the skin. “Anyone in the public eye will prefer the PicoWay obviously because of its effectiveness, but also the brief downtime and much less pain during and post treatment,” Lancer tells Yahoo. I guess this is what Beyoncé meant by “pretty hurts.”

And Kimmy is certainly no stranger to extreme or invasive beauty routines. She recently opened up to People about how her forehead is hairy beyond our wildest imagination. "I have the hairiest forehead you could ever imagine, and I would always break out and get all cracky on my forehead just from all the hair that I had," she said. The situation is so intense, in fact, that Kim K has employed both waxing fabulous and laser treatments. "So in high school, I would wax it off because there was just so much hair, and then I would laser it off a little bit." It's entirely plausible the real culprit in this laser trend is an epidemic of forehead peach fuzz.

Regardless, the treatment, which presumably none of us will be receiving, costs approximately $1,500 a session. Other things you could buy with $1,500 are a functioning car, three months' rent, or some therapy for frivolous spending.
