Emma Watson Shouldn't Be Nervous About Singing

Emma Watson has been announced as the lead in the new live action reboot of Beauty and the Beast movie, which we probably all know by now because, if you're anything like me, you've been flipping out about it ever since you found out. Belle is the role I never knew I wanted her to play, but now that she is, I can't imagine ever going back to a world where that isn't the case. She's the perfect choice for the character, and I'm literally on the edge of my seat with excitement to see her in the movie. But, apparently, not everyone is as jazzed as I am for this: In fact, one of the people who's less than sure about it is the actress herself, because, as she pointed out in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Emma Watson will have to try something new — singing.

I sing, so that’s really unexpected. I’ve never had to do that for a film role before, and I think people will be interested to see me do something very different like that. . . . It gives me a different challenge, really. That’s terrifying in and of itself!

Call me crazy, but isn't it so weird to hear Watson worrying about not being good at something? From where I stand, pretty much everything she touches turns to gold (probably a wizarding trick she learned as Hermione), so it's hard to imagine her being terrified by anything. After all, is there anything this girl can't do?

Well I took the liberty of doing some research to that end, and the answer I came up with was a firm "no." She's put herself out there in a bunch of new and intimidating situations, and it's always paid off for her in spades. Here are just a few times she's stepped out of her comfort zone and totally killed it. Someone forward this to her if she needs a little confidence boost! (And also tell her she has a standing invitation to brunch, and I'm really surprised I haven't seen her yet.)

Being An Actor

Being a child actor is the ultimate leap of faith, because your first attempts at the form are immortalized forever in film. Anytime we want to go see how far Watson has come as an actor, we don't have to look any further than the first and last Harry Potter movie. She worked hard, and she really came into her own.

Going To Brown

Um, hi, Watson graduated FROM AN IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL. Most actors don't even go to college, and she up and went to one of the best.

Kicking Ass In Yoga

Were you aware that Emma Watson is a certified yoga and meditation instructor? For real, could not be more intimidated by this girl's drive right now.

Taking The Fashion World By Storm

Watson collaborated with the UK line People Tree, and got super involved — way beyond what you might expect from someone who has an entire other career that makes her millions of dollars:

'I’m very hands-on,’ she says. ‘I’ve picked out the fabrics and last year I visited garment factories in Bangladesh. Everything is handmade.'

She also doesn't have her own stylist, instead choosing to dress herself, which is a huge risk in Hollywood — but one that pays off enormously for her, because GIRL IS MAD STYLISH.

Taking A Stand For Feminism

Watson really made waves with that #HeForShe speech for her role as a UN Ambassador, and she admits that she was super nervous about it beforehand, because it represented a completely new arena for her.

I was very nervous. It wasn't an easy thing for me to do. It felt like, 'Am I going to have lunch with these people, or am I going to be eaten? Am I the lunch?'

Obviously, though, she nailed it.

Taking On The Modeling World

You might think being in front of the camera is the same no matter the project, but modeling is actually a super specific skill that doesn't automatically translate just from being an actor. But true to form, Watson does an A+ job at it, just like she does everywhere else in her life.

Owning It At Painting

Honestly, I refuse to believe that she has the same amount of hours in the day as me, because this is ridiculous. In addition to everything else she conquers with a superhuman skill, apparently Watson paints as well. We've never seen any of the finished artwork, yet, but at the rate she's going, she'll have pieces in museums before the decade is out.

So yeah, long story short, I'm not super stressed about her singing voice. The way Watson attacks any new project reassures me that we won't hear a note until it's completely perfect. You're an inspiration to all of us, girl, get after it!
