'Shark Tank' Star Opens Up About Tough Time

The Shark Tank star and Dancing with the Stars contestant has been making headlines quite a bit lately. Not only is Robert Herjavec's divorce from Diane Plese, his wife of 25 years, being talked about, but so is Herjavec's reported romance with Kym Johnson, his partner on DWTS. Now, Herjavec is opening up about the suicidal thoughts he experienced after splitting from his wife.

In an interview with People, the TV personality bravely talked about the thoughts he had about ending his life, in addition to revealing what exactly saved him and kept pushing him forward. "I just wanted to end it," he said. Even though Herjavec and his wife "were great parents and a great team," eventually, the two "drifted apart." He noted, "It's been a terribly difficult year."

In the beginning, what made his split even harder was when his children stopped speaking to him. "Everyone has their kryptonite," he said. "For me, it was my kids. It took me to a place I never thought I would go."

Last July, Herjavec chose a new path to help guide him in the right direction. That path included reaching out to his pastor John McAuley. Before he knew it, Herjavec was volunteering at Seattle's Union Gospel Mission, where he worked the soup kitchen. No one recognized him and just thought he was a "recovering addict."

After spending time at the shelter and with individuals less fortunate, Herjavec joined DWTS, a show his mother, who died of ovarian cancer in 2007, loved as another way to push through the "pain" and everything he was going through. Both joining the ABC dance competition and volunteering at the shelter, which he still does, has helped put Herjavec in a better mindset.

"I was hollow and broken," he reveled. "And these people saved my life."

There's no doubt others have experienced what Herjavec has. His honesty and openness will hit home for many and be exactly what someone needs to possibly push them in the right direction to begin living their life in a healthy and positive way.
