This Odd Hack Makes Wearing High Heels Way Comfier

by Alexa Tucker

I think it's safe to say that a lot of us have a love-hate relationship with high heels. They're sleek, sexy, and make your calves look like they could belong to a model. But oh, the pain. Who What Wear discovered a life hack that'll make your pump addiction way more satisfying: to make heels more comfortable on the balls of your feet, simply tape your third and fourth toe together. Revolutionary, amirite?

According to the site, there's a physiological reason why this trick works. Apparently, "there’s a nerve that splits between those two toes, which causes pain when pressure is put upon it.... The tape removes strain on the nerve." To get in on this game-changing tip, secure your third and fourth toe (your big toe is number one, of course) with medical tape — tan or nude, preferably — or scotch tape if you've misplaced your big girl first aid kit. A band-aid would probably even work if you're in a bind.

This is definitely at the top of my list of DIY tricks to check out. The only caveat is that this probably wouldn't look great with open-toed sandals, but I'll take what I can get. Hey, maybe I'll exclusively wear close-toed heels from now on if this works as well as I'm hoping it will.
