Disney Has Signed On To Co-Produce 'The BFG'

Have you done something nice for your childhood self lately? Like danced in the rain or gone back in time and given yourself a chocolate chip cookie? One of those is easier than the other, I understand, but if you do find a moment to zip back for a chat with a much-younger version of yourself, please also pass along the message that The BFG is getting turned into a Disney-produced movie. Oh my god, why are you looking at me like that? Surely you remember The BFG! It stands for "The Big Friendly Giant", and it was only one of the best books that beloved children's book author Roald Dahl ever wrote! I can't believe you let that information go out of your head. Give your younger self permission to slap you across the face, and then come right back to 2015 to read this book and remind yourself how good it is.

According to IMDb, the movie will be out in 2016, is fully cast and currently filming, and offers this blurb in the way of a synopsis:

The tale of a young girl, the Queen of England and a benevolent giant known as the BFG, who set out on an adventure to capture the evil, man-eating giants who have been invading the human world.

And while that description is accurate, the book is so so so much more than that, and I have my fingers crossed incredibly tightly hoping that the movie pulls through. And based on the information we have now, it sounds like it will! Steven Spielberg is directing, Disney just threw their financial weight behind the project, as I mentioned earlier, and the cast includes the extremely talented Mark Rylance as the BFG himself, Bill Hader, Jermaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords, Penelope Wilton from Downton Abbey, and Rebecca Hall, among many, many others!

Not too proud to say that this is the most excited I've been about a movie in a good long time.
