Google Wants To Know What Animal You Are

Wednesday, April 22, is Earth Day, and to mark the occasion, Google has created not only a special doodle but a fun quiz that lets users get in touch with their animalistic side. Today, you can take Google's Earth Day "Which animal are you?" quiz that asks you to answer a few multiple-choice questions to determine what your nonhuman alter ego is. Even if you don't agree with your result, it's an entertaining way to break for a few minutes — and not to mention, an important reminder to show appreciation for our environment.

You can take the quiz by going to Google's homepage and either clicking on the rotating Earth globe, which has taken the place of the second "O" in "Google," or click on the "Which animal are you?" link below the search box. You'll then be taken to the first question, which appears above the search results for "Earth Day."

The first question asks, "What are you up to on a typical Friday night?" The answer choices are:

• Alone in my burrow
• Rarely seen out
• Strutting my stuff
• Following the herd

The next question asks, "You and your best friend show up to a party wearing the same outfit. What’s your reaction?"

• No big deal
• How embarrassing!
• Fight!
• Change outfits

The third question is "Choose a snack." Yum.

• Seafood
• Fruit and/or insects
• Meat
• Salad

The next question asks, "What do you look for in a partner?"

• Bright colors
• Loud grunting sounds
• A complex system of glands
• Old-fashioned values

The last question is "Choose a hobby."

• Feats of strength
• Work around the house
• Swimming
• None of the above

After answering these five questions, Google generates an animal that best represents you based on your choices.

I got woolly mammoth... OK. Why not. I have nothing against this prehistoric beast, but it might be the last animal I would have thought of as my kindred spirit. I do like the description though.

Wait a minute, you're telling me that sea otter was one of the results, and I didn't get it? My world has been shattered. Here are some of the animals that others got — and it looks like some other people weren't satisfied with their results either.

Even though I don't agree with my result 100 percent, I have to give props to Google for not sticking with the usual animals that we've all seen a million times at the zoo — tigers, lions, elephants, monkeys, etc. I mean, pangolin? That's pretty random and specific.

I took the quiz six more times, deliberately trying to answer the questions in order to get the sea otter result, but I kept getting either the giant squid or the cuttlefish (who wants to be a cuttlefish?). But now that I know that cuttlefish have the best brain-to-body ratio of all invertebrates, thanks to Google, I do have a newfound appreciation for them.
