We're Getting Another 'Spider-Man' Movie

by Kadeen Griffiths

If you were beginning to think that the wait until Marvel and Sony release the new live-action Spider-Man film just wasn't long enough, prepare to wait even longer for more Spider-Man goodness. Apparently, the directors of The Lego Movie are creating an animated Spider-Man film that will be hitting theaters in 2018, so, basically, you'd better start saving up all your cash since you'll be breaking the bank on all the great films coming out in the next three years. Of course, if you're like me, you might be wondering why we need two different Spider-Man movies to come out in the next three years, even if they're in two different mediums. However, since I have yet to ask that question about Batman, then I don't think I am in a position to judge.

That's all the information that we have about the film right now. It is animated, and it's by the same people who brought us The Lego Movie and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Of course, based on those two animated features alone, there are some guesses that we can make about what we can expect from this Spider-Man movie. Whether or not any of these guesses will turn out to be accurate still remains to be seen, but it'll certainly give us something to do while we wait.

1. It Will Be A Spider-Man Lego Movie

That was my immediate thought as soon as I saw this news, and I'm unwilling to give up on this dream. I mean, Batman is getting a Lego Movie spinoff, so why can't Spider-Man be the star of his own Lego movie franchise?

2. It Will Be Light On The Romance

I'm not saying there won't be romance in it, but it will probably be light on that and high on the action and comedy, if the two films that came before it are any indication. Sorry, Mary Jane and/or Gwen Stacy.

3. There Will Be Plenty Of Humor

This is just a given. The Lego Movie was hilarious. Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs was hilarious. Peter Parker, just as a person, is hilarious. Win/win/win.

4. It Might Be Kid-Friendly... Or Not

Both The Lego Movie and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs were rated PG, which meant that you could take a kid to see it even if they weren't thirteen yet. However, just because it's an animated film doesn't mean there won't be bonus jokes for the adults in the audience, jokes the kids will only get when they watch it again when they're older.

5. It Will Star Peter Parker

I mean, I've already got my fingers crossed that we might actually have a Miles Morales flick headed to the big screen, but Peter Parker is Hollywood's favorite Spider-Man and I see no reason why they might deviate from tradition now. Poor Miles, only ever lighting up the small screen.

6. It Will Be Our Favorite Movie Ever

I mean, it's a Spider-Man movie. So... duh?
