Why Neil Patrick Harris Needs To Be At The Tonys

by Alyse Whitney

It's finally time for the 2015 Tony Awards, but fan-favorite Neil Patrick Harris won't be hosting the show this year. In fact, for the first time in four years, NPH may not be at the ceremony at all since he isn't hosting or nominated. Given how close he is to the theater community and that he lives in New York City where it's held, he may show up to watch, but so far, there haven't been any announcements about him taking the stage to perform or present an award. Let's pour one out for NPH.

Just kidding — I can't sit back and live in a world where Harris isn't at the Tonys, so I've come up with a game plan to make sure the producers of the show know that he absolutely needs to be there. He's everyone's favorite, he knows how to steal the show — but he wouldn't dare take the spotlight from hosts Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming — and of course, he can wow everyone with song and dance. What more do they need? OK, he can put on a magic show if that's what it takes, too, and if he needs to get back into Hedwig's wig and heels, I bet he'd do it in a heartbeat.

His Performances Are Always Epic

The last time he hosted the Tonys in 2013, he killed it with this opening number spanning many musicals, and of course, he performed a rousing rendition of "Sugar Daddy" from his show Hedwig and the Angry Inch in 2014. It isn't the Tonys without an NPH performance.

Even dogs. Put him on stage with absolutely anyone and they will be the most talked-about duo of the night. Bonus points for his sweet husband, David Burtka, and their kids.

Who else is still watching "Sugar Daddy" from last year on repeat? Just me?

Everybody Loves Him & He'd Be Missed

NPH's bro Hugh Jackman would miss him a lot if he was gone, and all of his best friends are always at the show. It would be a let down for celebrities and fans alike if he wasn't there.
