Poppy Delevingne Dress Was Inspired By What?!

by Tyler Atwood

It only stands to reason that several of the Met Gala's attendees would take the ball's theme to an extreme, and Poppy Delevingne, and her Marchesa Met Gala gown, was one such attendee. In a crimson dress adorned with — what else? — poppies, the British beauty jokingly told the press her ensemble was inspired by opium. And indeed, Delevingne's gown was fairly intoxicating, from its blooming bodice to its delicate beading and full skirt. Marchesa's designs are notoriously lavish and heavily ornamental, but Delevingne's number was simultaneously feminine and ethereal. The gown's diaphanous skirt balanced the bodice's ornate detailing for a truly standout look.

The model and socialite maintained focus on her dramatic gown by keeping her coiffure and makeup minimal. A simple ballerina bun, bronzed cheekbones, and a barely-there smokey eye left the theatrics to Delevingne's gown, which the model accented with a glittering gilded clutch and minimal jewelry.

As to whether or not the elder Delevingne will indulge in her namesake opiate to celebrate the evening — and indeed her gown — remains to be seen. However, the spellbinding look itself will certainly keep Delevingne's fans in a delighted stupor. Who needs a come hither look when you have a Marchesa gown?
