LAX Shooting: TSA Agent Killed, Seven More Injured

by Jenny Hollander

On Friday morning, a shooter now identified as Paul Cinacia, 23, fired gunshots at a security checkpoint in Terminal 3 at LAX. At least six people were injured, as well as one TSA employee who at the checkpoint at the time and later died. The terminal has been evacuated, and flights have been grounded across LAX. Police told NBC that the "incident" is now over, and the gunman was wounded by police, before being arrested and taken into custody.

Surveillance footage saw would-be travelers running from the airport. The LAPD Tweeted numerous times about the incident, calling the scene a "multi-patient" situation. However, they quickly scaled down the alert from citywide down to West LA.

Said a White House official: "The President has been briefed about the shooting at LAX. We will continue to stay in touch with our federal and local partners. The LAPD is leading the response and investigation. We urge citizens to listen to the authorities and follow directions from the first responders on site. The president will continue to receive briefings throughout the day."

This is the second shooting in an American airport in six months. In May, Carnell Marcus Moore entered a Houston airport and opened fire at the ceiling before fatally shooting himself.
