The 'OITNB' Season 3 Trailer Has Arrived

by Tracy Dye

After what has felt like a century of waiting, our favorite ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary are returning for Season 3 of Orange Is The New Black. As satiating as the finale of Season 2 was for all of us die-hard fans — Vee's grizzly fate, Sister Jane's unraveling, villainous Fig's firing, and Alex's potential return to Litchfield among other things — I felt like the minute the final scene faded into orange, I was already ready to binge another season. OITNB has quite the addictive effect, and I'm already planning which popcorn I'm going to pair with my entire day's worth of engrossing myself in my Netflix account once the new season premiers.

There have been plenty of teasers and spoilers for OITNB floating around in anticipation of its return, and on May 11 Netflix released a new trailer for Season 3 to amp our respective excitement levels to the max. The trailer opens with a brief throwback to the series' early days, with a shot of Piper Chapman and then-fiancee Larry Bloom squeamishly attempting to explain Piper's criminal past. As we know now, Larry isn't returning for Season 3, but one person that will become a regular fixture once again is Alex Vause — woo hoo! Alex's return is one of many facets that appear to make Season 3 of OITNB the series' most binge-worthy season yet. Here are 11 of the best moments from the new trailer that are making us beyond excited for the Season 3 premier:

Alex Vause Is Back

As amazing as Season 2 of OITNB was, it was decidedly lacking in one Ms. Alex Vause. If you remember, Alex's newfound "freedom" was offset by her fear of suffering a gruesome fate by the hands of the traffickers she snitched on to obtain said freedom. On-again/off-again lover, Piper Chapman, went all sleuth in ensuring Alex would be protected by anonymously alleging Alex was breaching her probation. It looks like Piper's plan worked, as we see Alex donning some traditional orange garb at the Litchfield cafeteria, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have my favorite raven-haired ex-con back to being a regular fixture on the series.

Laverne Cox...What Else Do I Need To Say?

Oh hi, idol, I've missed you! Laverne Cox (who portrays Sophia on OITNB) is back and sure to dispense more sass and heart. I'm hoping that this season we learn more about what led Sophia to Litchfield, because as much exposition as we've received, our curiosity hasn't been properly satiated, in my humble opinion.

Bennett, Bennett, Bennett!

As an avid Bennett/Daya shipper, I can't wait to see what's in store for our favorite correctional officer and his technically-illegal-but-somehow-super-sweet-and-romantic relationship with Daya. We all remember that Bennett evaded arrest by ratting out George "Pornstache" Menendez as the father of Daya's unborn child (even though the child is actually his). Can Bennett and Daya's relationship survive? Who's going to take care of the baby now that Pornstache has been arrested? One thing is for certain: June needs to get here, ASAP!

What Is Poussey Reading?

Not only was the Poussey's tragic backstory revealed last season, our hearts ached for this inmate as she became a target of Vee's vitriol. Poussey seems to be in much better spirits during Season 3 based on this trailer, exclaiming "oh sh**!" while reading...what is she reading? Ugh, I've said it once and I'll say it again: June needs to get here, already!

Lorna Is So Giddy She Could Just "Go Out & Shoot Something"...What?!

We learned last season that Lorna's alleged fiancee was actually a man she had been stalking — and the catalyst to her sentencing. Unstable yet lovable-and-lipsticked Lorna giddily beams that "just hearing you talk about that makes me wanna go out and shoot something" to a visitor. Who is visiting her and why has he made her so jubilant? Has Lorna made a love connection that isn't entirely one-sided?! I, personally, will continue to ship the Lorna/Nicky coupling (a girl can dream!), but I'm also open to newcomers.

More Piper/Alex Torment

With Alex back in the fold, you know what that means — more of Piper and Alex's tormented romance, of course! Duh. Despite all these ladies have done to fracture each other's trust, I'm still a total shipper. With Larry getting the boot, perhaps some new doors — or bars, rather — can be opened for these two.

What Is Big Boo's Backstory?

In the trailer, we see Big Boo toasting Pennsatucky with what I can only assume to be toilet hooch. Are we going to get to learn a little bit more about Big Boo's exposition? Either way, I'm just excited to have some more Boo back on my screen.

A Newbie With A Wink

Who is this? Apparently her name is Ruby Rose, and she's a new inmate who is poised to serve as a "lust object" for both Piper and Alex! Oh my!

More Dance Parties

Just because you got busted doesn't mean you don't know how to bust some moves.

More Prophetic Musings From Crazy Eyes

"Once you know Santa Claus isn't real, it's all downhill from there," Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren proclaims with her characteristically frenetic gesturing. Crazy Eyes is actually my favorite character (who is yours??), so I'm more than a little amped to see what's in store for her in Season 3.

Piper Is Still Dabbling In Journalism

With pencil in hand and emphatic gesturing, it appears that Piper is back to being a conduit for the other inmates' stories.
