When it comes to the men of Gilmore Girls, you can argue until the cows come home as to whether or not Rory Gilmore should have ended up with Jess, Logan, Dean, or if she was just fine with her own bad self. However, when it comes to Lorelai, everyone knows it was Luke all along. The surly diner owner with a heart of gold could melt the hearts of even the harshest of critics, Emily and Richard Gilmore, with his earnest and straightforward ways. Sure, he hid his daughter from Lorelai and ran away when it came to real commitment time, but all was forgiven in the end because it's Luke. The Luke Danes appeal is a multifaceted system with factors that include coffee-making abilities, reliability, being handy, loving Rory like his own, burger readiness, and of course... The Look.

Ah, yes, the classic Luke Danes look — easy to replicate, impossible to truly be copied (sorry, Jess). It's not just what Luke wore that made him so irresistible; it's how he wore it. It was all Bruce Springsteen small town America and, boy oh boy, was it hot. Luke's wardrobe was so predictable (and I, for one, liked it that way) that when he wore something a little more formal and even took his hat off it was, to quote Mean Girls, "like watching a dog walk on its hind legs." Luke Danes will forever be holding a pot of coffee and wearing that outfit, and we are all better for it.
