Should You Get A Lob?

by May Sofi

With the rise of the lob, bob, and the pixie, made popular by celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Vanessa Hudgens, and Katy Perry, many of us are left wondering "can I pull that off?" Thankfully, there is now an answer to that — the 2.25 inch rule will tell you if you look best with short or long hair. So if you've ever thought about going for the chop but was afraid of the possibly disastrous results, you now know if it will actually look good before you do it.

This golden rule comes from hair legend John Frieda, who "studied faces and saw that the angle of the jaw bone determined whether or not someone would look best with short hair or long hair" Cosmopolitan reports. If you're already dying to find out your fate, here is how it works:

Step 1: Place a pen under your chin horizontally.

Step 2: Hold a ruler under your ear vertically.

Step 3: Read the measurement at the point of intersection between the pen and the ruler.

If the measurement is lower than 2.25 inches, congratulations! A lob totally works on your face shape. If it's higher than 2.25 inches, you should probably stick with your long locks. This idea is based on the concept that, supposedly, longer face shapes are suited for long hair, and shorter ones for short hair.

Of course, you don't need a hard and fast rule to tell you what to do with your hair, but if you're on the fence about going shorter, this could be an easy way to help you decide whether it's right for you.
