Mariah Carey's BBMAs Performance Is Amazing

Mariah Carey is pretty much the Queen of the Billboard charts, amassing 14 Billboard Music Awards and 18 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles over the years. Earlier this week, though, she canceled her Wednesday night performance of her Las Vegas residency, Mariah #1 to Infinity at Caesar's Palace due to bronchitis. But Carey was back and took the Billboard stage for the first time in 17 years to perform her new single "Infinity" at the Billb oard Music Awards on Sunday night. She sounded mostly like good ol' Mariah, going for all the high notes.

After a tribute video to the Queen of the Billboard charts, Carey took the stage in a gorgeous sparkly dress, accompanied by backup singers and a pianist. The performance kicked off with Carey belting her very first number No. 1 song, "Vision of Love." Then, Carey eased into her new single, which is not exactly "Vision of Love." She may have been a little off pitch, but, hey, she did just get over bronchitis.

According to an interview in the Los Angeles Times, Carey feels that "Infinity" is reminiscent of her radio hits like "Vision of Love" and "We Belong Together." "I did it with Eric Hudson," she said. "He’s a great young producer. Actually his parents wrote 'Holiday' for Madonna. He’s super talented. When he was creating the track, all of those strings are live."

Carey has been very busy these days. "Infinity" is a single from the Elusive Chanteuse's third compilation album #1 to Infinity, which includes hits like "Someday," "Emotions," "One Sweet Day," "Heartbreaker," "We Belong Together," and many more. The album drops on May 18. Carey's similarly named Vegas residency began on May 6 and will run through July at Caesar's, featuring her No.1 hit songs that we know and love.
