Will Josh Duggar Leave '19 Kids & Counting'?

by Lia Beck

According to a police report obtained by InTouch, Josh Duggar has been accused of sexual assault for allegedly molesting five female minors while he was also a minor. The report from the Springdale, Ark. Police Department that InTouch published claims that Josh was 14 years old at the time of the first incident which took place in 2002. After InTouch's report was released, Josh, his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, and his wife, Anna, responded to the claims through statements released to People. One question viewers of the show and anyone else who has heard about the report might be wondering now is whether Josh Duggar will remain on 19 Kids and Counting in light of this news.

Obviously, this depends on whether the show continues at all. Back in October 2014 when reports came out that June Shannon (aka Mama June), one of the stars of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, was allegedly dating a child molester, TLC wasted no time canceling the reality show. TLC tells Bustle they have "no comment" in regard to the allegations surrounding Josh Duggar, what the fate of the show is, and whether or not Josh will continue on 19 Kids and Counting. As for Josh's statement to People about the claims, it reads as follows,

Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.

If the show does continue, whether or not Josh is included will probably not be an easy decision for the network or for the Duggar family. As viewers of the show know, Josh, Anna, and their three children live in Washington D.C. Segments of the show focus on this branch of the family, but they are only included in parts that feature the rest of the Duggars during family visits. Because of this, leaving Josh out of the show wouldn't be difficult logistically; although his lack of presence would be obvious.

Another sign that Josh might not participate in the show if it continues, is that along with his statement to People, the publication revealed that Josh "resigned from his position at the Family Research Council as a result of the accusations becoming public." Of course, "resigned" could mean a couple of things: that he chose to leave or that he was asked to leave. Still, the fact that these allegations caused him to leave his job, could mean that either he'll follow suit and leave 19 Kids or that 19 Kids might follow suit and ask him to leave. For now, we'll have to wait and see what the network and the Duggar family decide.
