Rashida Jones Speaks Out Against Cannes Flats Ban

by Jamie Cuccinelli

Turns out, one actress has some very pointed things to say about heels. Rashida Jones has spoken out about the Cannes flats ban, becoming one of the celebs to voice her disgust at the industry's latest Red Carpet Rule, during her appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

"It's part of a larger problem, which is heels are the worst. They make your legs look better, whatever, but mainly it’s men designing them and setting these rules, and NO," the Parks and Rec actress vehemently stated. "If they make a rule where that I have to wear heels on the carpet, then I’m making a rule that I’m just going to wear flats any time I’m asked to wear heels. Just to be rebellious."

Preach, girl, preach! The Cannes anti-flats rule that sparked endless headlines just two weeks ago seems a bit outdated (not to mention the fact that men definitely aren't forced to wear heels), although the film festival representatives have stood by it, saying in an official statement emailed to Bustle:

Regarding the dress code for the red carpet screenings, rules have not changed throughout the years (Tuxedo, formal dress for Gala screenings) and there is no specific mention about the height of the women’s heels as well as for men’s. Thus, in order to make sure that this rule is respected, the Festival’s hosts and hostesses were reminded of it.

Jones has the right idea that the most radical rebellion against it is to wear what you want, when you want. And what better time to join the Flat Revolution? With summer shoes now on the shelves, it's the perfect time to stock up on those fantastic flats and prove to the Red Carpet Gods just how fancy flats can be — perfect for summer boardwalk days and the sexiest, beachy nights.
