Hilary Duff's "Tattoo" Performance Is A Must-See

by Alex Kritselis

On Thursday, former Disney Channel star Hilary Duff debuted an acoustic performance of "Tattoo" — a new song lifted from her just-released album, Breathe In. Breathe Out. — and it's wonderful. Trust me, Duff fans: You don't want to miss this video. Because the 27-year-old artist's latest LP is primarily comprised of EDM-leaning pop tunes, the guitar-driven "Tattoo," which was co-penned by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, really stands out (in a good way, of course).

"It's a really heartfelt, honest song about getting burned and not feeling appreciated in a relationship, and the marks you get left with at the end," Duff told Vulture during a recent interview. "I wanted to share a really stripped-down version of the song to give people an idea what the song is about.” She succeeded: the scaled-back arrangement allows "Tattoo's" emotional lyrics to shine. On the chorus, Duff sings:

You're under my skin

Running in my bloodstream

These scars are the way that you loved me

I guess that you had to leave a tattoo

On my skin

Running in my bloodstream

These scars are the way that you loved me

I guess that you had to leave a tattoo to remind me

A tattoo to remind me

A tattoo to remind me

Duff's voice has a sweet, pure tone that's very pleasant to listen to. I hope she does more acoustic performances like this one in the future! The style suits her well.

Breathe In. Breathe Out. is available on iTunes and Spotify now.
