Makeup is a wonderful, magical tool that some of us can't live without. From making our skin look glowier to lengthening our lashes, there's nothing makeup can't do. The only annoying thing about it is having to take it off, especially when it comes to bedtime. By now you've probably learned that sleeping in makeup is bad for you, yet, you still do it from time to time. I am totally guilty as charged. However, after going over the detrimental effects going to bed with a full face of makeup can have on my skin, I'm vowing to never ever do it again.
Aging is an inevitable part of life. Our skin won't always be as youthful as it is now, being able to bounce back from the harm we put it in at times. But by not removing your makeup, especially at night, will only help speed up the aging process. And why would you want that?
Sleeping in your makeup clogs your pores and messes with the collagen in your face. What's more is that you've probably woken up with a face full of pimples as a result. Acne is just the beginning, though. You can give yourself bacterial infections and even cause styes in your eyes.
There a lot of bad side effects to not taking off your makeup off before bed, but here are five major reasons you should never ever go to bed wearing your makeup again.
1. You're Welcoming Zits
Makeup holds onto dirt, oil, and dead skin which can clog your pores resulting in zits. You can't blame bad genetics for that!
2. You're Forming Blackheads
Waxes are used to make a lot of lip products. Leaving your lipstick on over night can lead to clogged pores around your mouth, causing blackheads. If you've never had a blackhead extracted from around your mouth, let me just tell you: you don't want to know what that feels like. Do yourself a favor and avoid sleeping in your lipstick, at all costs.
3. You're More Suspectible To Infections
When oil mixes with leftover makeup in your T-zone, you won't just end up with clogged pores. You could get a bacterial infection that you won't be able to just treat at home, which, in the end, creates more work for you. Ironic, isn't it?
4. You Could Get Styes In Your Eyes
Makeup around your eyes can clog little oil glands and hair follicles on your eyelids which may result in styes in your eyes. Not cute. Not cute at all.
5. You Can Lose Eyelashes
When you sleep in your mascara it can flake off roughly and pull out some of your eyelashes. Not only do your eyelashes take a long time to grow back (approx. 2 to 4 months), they are also less likely to grow when they are broken. The lesson? Take care of your lashes and remove your mascara!
